Final Touch: DNS Changes Made Easy

Before making any changes to your DNS records, it’s always a smart move to take a quick snapshot of your current settings. This simple step adds an extra layer of confidence. If by any chance you’re not completely satisfied with the changes or want to revert to your previous configuration, you’ll have your trusty backup to easily restore things back to how they were. It’s like having a safety net for your DNS changes – just in case, but you’ll likely find that everything goes smoothly.

Step one: Pointing your domain to our servers

The A record maps a domain to the physical IP address of our web server, which is used to serve your site to visitors. If you are using Cloudflare to manage your DNS records, please note that you must disable the orange proxy icon while pointing the A records.

Record 1: Please add/update the following:
Type:
A Record
Copy
Host/Name
@
Copy
Value:
162.159.136.54
Copy
TTL:
Lowest possible
Copy
Record 2: Please add/update the following:
Type:
A Record
Copy
Host/Name
@
Copy
Value:
162.159.137.54
Copy
TTL:
Lowest possible
Copy

If you have opted to point the ‘www’ subdomain, please add the below two records. If you are using Cloudflare to manage your DNS records, please note that you must disable the orange proxy icon while pointing the A records.

Record 1: Please add/update the following:
Type:
A Record
Copy
Host/Name
www
Copy
Value:
162.159.136.54
Copy
TTL:
Lowest possible
Copy
Record 2: Please add/update the following:
Type:
A Record
Copy
Host/Name
www
Copy
Value:
162.159.137.54
Copy
TTL:
Lowest possible
Copy

Step Two: Setting up transactional e-mails (e.g. password resets, form submissions …)

Please note that there can only be one SPF record per domain, so if there is an existing record, add include:_spf.elasticemail.com at the end of that record. For instance, if you have an SPF record for G-suite, the record should look like v=spf1 a mx include:_spf.google.com include:_spf.elasticemail.com ~all

Record 1: Please add/update the following:
Type:
TXT
Copy
Host/Name
@
Copy
Value:
v=spf1 a mx include:_spf.elasticemail.com ~all
Copy
TTL:
Lowest possible
Copy

Some domain registrars won’t accept api._domainkey as a valid record. In this case append the domain, e.g. api._domainkey.example.com

Record 1: Please add/update the following:
Type:
TXT
Copy
Host/Name
api._domainkey
Copy
Value:
k=rsa;t=s;p=MIGfMA0GCSqGSIb3DQEBAQUAA4GNADCBiQKBgQCbmGbQMzYeMvxwtNQoXN0waGYaciuKx8mtMh5czguT4EZlJXuCt6V+l56mmt3t68FEX5JJ0q4ijG71BGoFRkl87uJi7LrQt1ZZmZCvrEII0YO4mp8sDLXC8g1aUAoi8TJgxq2MJqCaMyj5kAm3Fdy2tzftPCV/lbdiJqmBnWKjtwIDAQAB
Copy
TTL:
Lowest possible
Copy
Record 1: Please add/update the following:
Type:
TXT
Copy
Host/Name
_dmarc
Copy
Value:
v=DMARC1;p=none;pct=100;aspf=r;adkim=r;
Copy
TTL:
Lowest possible
Copy

If your DNS registrar automatically adds your domain name after the tracking value, e.g., api.elasticemail.com.example.com To avoid this from happening, add a period “.” at the end of your tracking record value, e.g. api.elasticemail.com.
If you are using Cloudflare to manage your DNS records, please note that you must disable the orange proxy icon while pointing the tracking record.

Record 1: Please add/update the following:
Type:
CNAME
Copy
Host/Name
tracking
Copy
Value:
api.elasticemail.com
Copy
TTL:
Lowest possible
Copy

FAQ

Think of SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and Tracking as your email bodyguards. SPF checks if your email server is a trusted sender, DKIM adds a unique signature, DMARC tells others what to do if something looks fishy, and Tracking helps monitor your email’s journey. Together, they ensure your emails reach the inbox instead of the spam folder.
